Cold Weather Joint Pain & Chiropractic care


As it continues to get colder you may be experiencing more aches and pains. Cold weather can cause joint pain in your back, arms, shoulders, knees and hips. 

Researchers don’t have an exact answer as to why cold weather causes joint pain. It is widely believed that because of the lower air pressure that comes with cold weather the joints tissues begin to expand which can cause swelling and pain. While there isn’t a definitive answer as to why cold weather causes joint pain, there are some things you can do to help ease your aches and pains.


Stay hydrated

Hydration isn’t just for summer, our bodies need proper hydration year round. Your body is made up of water and it needs it to be able to work properly. Drinking the recommended amount of water each day can help keep your body and joints healthy and happy.


Eat a balanced diet

Ensuring that your body is getting all the nutrients it needs is key to keeping your body and joints healthy. During the winter, you are less likely to be getting enough Vitamin D and other nutrients. Eating a balanced diet can allow you to get the needed amount of vitamins and minerals to keep your bones and joints happy and healthy.

Exercise might be the last thing you want to do when you have joint pain but it has been known to help. If you aren’t exercising regularly it can cause your joints to become stiff which will cause more pain. Exercising regularly keeps your joints strong and healthy.


Take a warm bath

Heat has been known to help relieve joint pain. Although this isn’t a complete fix, it is helpful for temporary relief.
