Chiropractic Adjusments

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is a procedure where a chiropractor uses their hands or a small instrument to apply force to a spinal joint. This is also known as spinal manipulation. The goal is to bring the bones of that joint back to their normal fit. This helps to improve physical function of the body. An adjustment may only be needed once to achieve this, or it may be needed several times..

Why do I need a chiropractic adjustment?

People may need a chiropractic adjustment for several reasons. If you are experiencing back pain, neck pain or headaches you may benefit from a chiropractic adjustment. You may also benefit if you have recently been in a car accident or some other sort of physical accident.

FAQ

Is chiropractic care safe?
Yes. According to the American Chiropractic Association: “Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, are very small.” Most patients feel better immediately after treatment. Some patients report milk soreness or stiffness that typically goes away within 24 hours.

Is chiropractic care safe for children?
Certainly! Children can benefit greatly from chiropractic care. Children are typically very active and experience falls from daily activities. They may also face injuries from participating in sports. Because of these things, they may experience back pain, neck pain or other soreness. Chiropractic care could help with these things. Care is always adjusted to meet the individual patients needs and we are very gentle in our chiropractic adjustments for children.

How long does a chiropractic adjustment last?
The length of time after an adjustment during which a patient can expect pain relief and increased mobility naturally depends on the patient. Factors affecting the longevity of relief include the patient’s work load, stress, exercise, diet, and the degree to which the patient follows his/her chiropractic treatment plan.

How often should I see a chiropractor?
Unlike typical medical treatment in which the physician is seen once or twice followed by pill-taking at home, chiropractic treatments are personalized and manual, requiring the patient to come into the therapist’s office. Multiple visits may be necessary. Your Doctor of Chiropractic will establish a pre-treatment plan indicating how many visits at what frequency may be needed.
